Matthew Dale Smith

               Matthew Dale Smith, 53, of Harrison passed away Saturday, October 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with advanced colon cancer. Matt was born on June 10^th, 1972, in Pontiac, Michigan to parents Ralph and Karran (Stout) Smith. Matt grew up in Walled Lake and lived there for many years before locating to Harrison for work. He did mechanical work in high school before becoming a Site Supervisor for Grand Rapids Building Services. He worked a few years for the Clare County Sherriff’s Department until he obtained his nursing license and worked as an LPN at the Isabella County Medical Care Facility.

               Matt had many hobbies including woodworking, working on vehicles, gunsmithing, hunting, learning new subjects, and watching birds and wildlife in his yard.

               Matt’s wealth of knowledge and willingness to always help family and friends will be greatly missed. His attention to detail in everything he did will never be forgotten, especially his Christmas gift wrapping which was close to perfection. We will always be extra careful driving at night to avoid all Possums that may cross our path with loving memories of Matt. Life is forever changed without that little wink or that distinct smile, but we know he’s at peace and watching over all of us as he did in life. Matt’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to his friends that were by Matt’s side to the very end, you gave him peace and love that is unmeasurable, thank you.

               Matt is survived by his parents, Ralph and Karran Smith of Harrison, two sisters; Dana Pilot and husband Jeff of Bay City, Michigan and Renee Webb and husband Ken of Midland, Michigan, fiancée, Amanda Shinabargar of Harrison, nieces; Shelby (Jordan) Shawl, Ashlee Webb, Sarah (Lexie) Pilot, a great niece, Ellie Shawl and great nephews; Charlee and Aiden Riddle, future great nieces Madilyn and Olivia Birr.  Matt was predeceased by his paternal grandparents Albert and Maybelle Smith and maternal grandparents Charles and Sarah Nadine Stout. The family also wishes to acknowledge the love and support shared between Matthew and his fiancée Amanda during their time together and are forever grateful.

               Funeral services honoring Matthew will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at Clark-Stocking Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service, 165 West Oak Street, Harrison with Pastor Jut Daron officiating. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 1:30 p.m. until time of service. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 29, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Midland Municipal Cemetery, Midland.
