Daniel “Dan” Keith Duma Sr., passed away at the age of 74, on Sunday, March 1, 2026, surrounded by family and love. He passed with grace and peace. Dan was born Tuesday, January 1, 1952, in West Branch, Michigan, the son of the late Glen Barr and Libby Marie Duma. Dan was raised by his loving adopted father, the late Louis F. Duma.
Dan was a Boy Scout of America, where he met and shook hands with President John F. Kennedy. Dan graduated from Harrison High School in 1971. Dan met the love of his life, whom he called his “Bride” for almost 55 loving years, Rita (Curns) Duma and she survives him.
Dan and Rita raised 4 children in love, Holly (Scott)David, Todd (Lori) Duma, Chad Duma, Robert Burkey and honorary son, Veto Giannola, grandchildren; Garrette (Kayla) King, Dalton Duma, Austin Duma, Victoria Burkey, Hannah Duma, Shelby Duma and honorary grand, Tristian Giannola, great-grandbaby, Oliver King, Dan is also survived by his siblings; Janice (Arthur) Boneasse, Dana (Gary) Sexton, Helen (Matthew) Williams, LouAnn Seney, Louis (Sue) Duma, sister’s-in-law; Joyce Curns, Carol (Marvin) Beddard, Vicky Searles and Robyn Monville, brother’s-in-law; Bruce Curns, Robert Curns and Dave (Sue) Curns. Dan also had a special relationship with his brother’s-in-law; Allan Winters II and Tim Seney. He is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews who all held a special place in his heart. Dan was Preceded in death by his infant son; Daniel Keith Duma Jr. (little Danny), in-laws; Harley and Nellie Curns, stepfather in-law, Leo Piper, many brother and sister’s in-law, nieces and nephews. Dan is survived by his best friend since the 1960’s, Kevin Breese and wife Anna. The Breese family is the very definition of love and friendship. Dan and Kevin logged over 100 days of tent camping together making them true outdoorsmen.
Dan spent nearly his entire life in Harrison. A community he cherished and served with pride, integrity and heart. Starting his law enforcement career with the Harrison City Police Department, then Clare County Sheriff Department, where as Sergeant, he wore many hats, marine officer, teaching boater safety and hunter safety and leading the cadet program and school liaison officer.
Dan was all about loving his bride and family, helping others when and where he could, never judging, always loving and being the best example of a human. He lived by family is not always blood. Dan loved his property on Filter Road and his neighbors that became family. He will be remembered for his jokes, sense of humor, his laugh and his hugs.
In keeping with Dan’s wishes, no service will take place. The family will have a bonfire this summer to celebrate him. Memorial gifts in memory of Dan may be considered by a random act of kindness, being respectful and helping and loving each other just as he lived his life.
