The Harrison Area Chamber of Commerce has named Maye Tessner Rood grand  marshal of this year's 4th of July parade.

Born in Detroit and raised in Mason, Maye graduated from Mason High School before her family's connection to nature led them to a cabin in the Harrison area in 1966. After her parents permanently moved to the area in the early 1970s, she joined them in the early 1980s to offer support.

Raising her two sons within the Harrison Community School system, she became deeply involved in various school and 4-H projects over the next two decades. This period shaped her commitment to education and community service.

During her career, she held positions with the Clare-Gladwin RESD and Harrison Community Schools, and she also held a real estate Broker's License, facilitating transactions in Clare County. In Hayes Township, she has served in multiple capacities, including as Hayes Township Treasurer. She retired from the Harrison Community Schools District before coming out of retirement to resume her role as Hayes Township Treasurer. Currently, she also works as a hostess/manager at Trails End Restaurant and Pizzeria, balancing public service with hospitality.

Throughout her journey, she has cherished the friendships, opportunities, and community spirit that have enriched her life. She also has been actively involved in raising funds for veterans' projects, a cause that's close to her heart. She found it a particularly humbling experience to be chosen as the Grand Marshal of the Harrison 4th of July parade, which highlighted her deep connection to the community and its traditions.

Maye continues to reside in the Harrison area, grateful for the bonds forged, the opportunities embraced, and the enduring spirit of community.
