Logan Young qualified for the state finals for the boys. Bella Young qualified for the state finals for the girls. Saturday was quite the day for the Young siblings, as the duo exceled in the Division 3 regional race at Mancelona, finishing well enough to punch their tickets to this weekend’s state championship meet.

Logan Young took fifth overall with a time of 15:55 and the senior will be making his second straight trip to the finals.

“Logan has been amazing this year,” head coach Eli Hayes said. “He is going to states back-to-back after winning the small school division in the Jack Pine Conference. With it being his senior year, he has really put all of his effort out there and it is definitely coming to fruition. He has had an excellent season this year.”

Bella Young, just a freshman, finished 14th overall with a solid time of 19:50.

“Bella has had a fantastic season,” Hayes said. “Being a freshman, she has had a lot to prove this year. She has proven herself time and time again.”

Overall, the Harrison boys finished eighth out of 12 scoring teams.

Following Logan Young on the boys’ side was Jayden Bobzien in 32nd with a 17:31, Kaiden Eichorn ran to a 40th place spot with a 17:55, Chase Dhaene had a time of 19:45.6 to come in 63rd, and Gavin Jansen was right behind in 64th, with a time of 19:45.9. Cory Westbrook was also 82nd with a 21:15 and Adam Eichorn rounded things out for the Hornets, coming in 86th with a time of 22:24.

The Lady Hornets did not have enough runners for a team score, but following Bella Young was Caitlin Kirby, who was 42nd with a time of 22:27.

The Division 3 state championship race will be held on Saturday at Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn.
