US-10 reopening today, June 2, after M-30 beam removal in Sanford

Update:

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is reopening both directions of US-10 in Midland County today, June 2, at the M-30 bridge in Sanford. Bridge beams that were set earlier this month were showing signs of cracking. MDOT closed US-10 on May 30 so crews could safely remove the beams.

Westbound US-10 was reopened this morning while eastbound US-10 is anticipated to reopen later in the afternoon. Two lanes of traffic will be open in each direction.

M-30 will remain closed over US-10 as a part of a $7.3 million project to improve the structure. Southbound M-30 traffic is currently detoured via westbound US-10, southbound W. River Road and eastbound US-10 back to southbound M-30. Northbound traffic is detoured via eastbound US-10, northbound Stark Road and westbound US-10 back to northbound M-30.

MT. PLEASANT, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is closing US-10 from May 30 through June 6 to remove beams on the M-30 bridge over US-10 in Sanford. Bridge beams that were set earlier this month are showing signs of cracking. Out of an abundance of caution, MDOT will close US-10 so crews can safely remove the beams.

"Our inspectors discovered cracking in these recently installed beams," said Jack Hofweber, Mt. Pleasant Transportation Service Center manager. "We made the decision to have them removed and replaced. We will continue to investigate how this occurred but fortunately this was discovered before there was any risk to the traveling public."

Both directions of US-10 are now closed to traffic and are expected to reopen by Friday, June 6. Westbound US-10 traffic will be detoured via northbound M-30, westbound Curtis Road and southbound M-18 back to US-10. Eastbound traffic will be detoured via northbound M-18, eastbound Curtis Road, southbound M-30, eastbound Shaffer Road, and southbound Stark Road back to US-10.

M-30 is currently closed over US-10 for the duration of this project. Southbound M-30 traffic is currently detoured via westbound US-10, southbound W. River Road and eastbound US-10 back to southbound M-30. Northbound traffic is detoured via eastbound US-10, northbound Stark Road and westbound US-10 back to northbound M-30.

The M-30 bridge is currently being rebuilt as a part of a $7.3 million investment to improve the structure.
