CMDHD Hosting Save a Life Day Events in Mt. Pleasant and Harrison

Posted

Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) will host two Save a Life Day events on Thursday, September 24, 2026. In Mt. Pleasant, join us from 7:30am to 2:00pm at Island Park. In Harrison, join us from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Harrison Shopping Center parking lot. These free events will provide community members with tools and information that can help prevent overdose and protect their health.

CMDHD’s Exchange Central Naloxone, also known by the brand names Narcan and Padagis, is a nasal spray that can temporarily reverse an opioid overdose quickly. Staff will provide free naloxone kits and show people how to use them.

“Having naloxone on hand is one simple way people can be prepared to save a life,” said Anna Reetz, CMDHD Community Health Supervisor. “You do not have to know someone who uses opioids to carry naloxone. It can be used by anyone who may be in a position to respond to an overdose.”

Exchange Central staff will also offer rapid testing for HIV and hepatitis C. They will have sterile drug use supplies available, as well as fentanyl, xylazine, and medetomidine test strips. People can stop by to get supplies, ask questions, or learn more about local health resources.

The event also highlights CMDHD's commitment to reducing the spread of infectious diseases and connecting people with care and support.

CMDHD's Exchange Central Syringe Service Program provides sterile syringes and other supplies to help reduce the spread of HIV and hepatitis C. The program also connects people with health care, substance use treatment, and other community resources.

Exchange Central provides a safe, respectful place for people who use substances and people affected by substance use. Services focus on building trust, preventing overdose, and helping people connect with care. Learn more about Exchange Central at their website and on Facebook.

Save a Life Day is led by SOAR WV, a West Virginia-based organization that works to support people affected by substance use. In 2025, Save a Life Day became a fully national event, with 1,044 events held across all 50 states and 132,959 naloxone doses distributed. For more information about Save a Life Day, visit SOAR WV.
