Impressive 9-1 Regular Season Record for Harrison’s Sixth Grade Boys

The Harrison Hornet 6th grade boys’ basketball team took two hard-earned victories on Saturday, Feb 14 to claim the title of No. 1 seed for the upcoming 6th grade Mid Michigan Youth Basketball League tournament. The team ended the season with an impressive 9-1 record.

In game one, the young Hornets defeated previously undefeated Ogemaw Heights 15-13 with their trademark tough defense, fast style of play, and balanced scoring. Trace Chaskey scored 4 and Trevor Lownsberry scored 3. Cooper Durga, Jeremiah Oakley, Grayson Walker and Landon Brewer each contributed 2 in a very balanced attack.

In their second game of the day, the Hornets had a bit more breathing room with a 24-14 victory over Roscommon. Landon Brewer led the team with 10 points. Contributing also were Trevor Lownsbery with 6 points and Cooper Durga with 4 points. Connor Rees and Alex Smith added 2 points each.

The top seeded Hornets will take on the winner of Beaverton vs. Meridian 1 at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21 at the Harrison High School gym. Championship bracket play will continue with a MMYBL champion crowned after the 11 a.m. game.
