Annual Freedom 5K Run/Walk Draws Hoard of Dedicated Participants

HARRISON – The 12th Annual Freedom 5K Run/Walk, in Memory of Spc. Robert Friese and all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice, was again a well-attended event. Karl Hauser, director of Clare County Veterans Services, reported some 192 people had signed up for the event, but that with walk-on registrants, the number was easily 200. Beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 29 from Veterans Freedom Park, runners headed out from the starting gate for a 3.1-mile timed race. The walkers followed, keeping their own pace as they participated in an event which not only honors fallen veterans, but also serves as a fundraiser for maintenance and operation of Veterans Freedom Park.

There was no awards ceremony per se, but medals were available for pickup and individual race times were posted at www.veteransfreedompark.com. This year’s top placers listed by category, name and time, include:
