Quilts of Valor Awarded to 3 Local Veterans on Memorial Day

Before Memorial Day ceremonies at Veterans Freedom Park, Judy Tritten, QOVF volunteer, presented quilts to Isha Walter and Douglas Stevens, both of Harrison.

Walter served in the U.S. Air Force from 1997 to 2006. She served in Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF). She was a Serbo-Croation Linguist. She was stationed at Ft. Meade, Maryland; Lackland AFB, Texas; Bad Aibling, Germany; and Sarajevo, Bosnia. She was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant (E5).

Stevens served in the U.S. Army from 1968 to 1970. He was an MP and also was in Engineering equipment repair. Stevens was stationed in Korea and Ft. Lewis, Washington. He made temporary visits to the Korean DMZ and was honorably discharged as a Spec 4 (E4).

Later that day, Leonard "Shorty" Wixson of Harrison received his Quilt of Valor at the Horizons Living Center in Clare. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1954, serving in Korea and Greenland. He was honorably discharged as a Private (E1).

Thanks to all of these individuals for their service to our country.
