HARRISON – The Clare County Historical Society once again offered citizens an opportunity to stroll through some of Clare County’s history via its Sept. 28 Old Fashion Day. The Society’s property, located at the intersection of Dover Road and Eberhart Avenue, was the site of many opportunities, including guided tours of all the buildings: the History Museum, the Blacksmith Shop, the Dover School, and the Ott Family Cabin. Also featured this year, was the newly-placed Bell Knapp Cabin, with a dedication ceremony held that day.

The day of pretty much free everything included many opportunities for family fun and education, such as hayrides, refreshments, period music performed by Stephanie Terpening, blacksmithing demonstrations, and a chance to play with some vintage toy trains, toys and games. Displays included; 100 miniature cars of the ’50s and ’60s; a vintage Detroit Tigers items; miniature historic flags of the USA (and book giveaway); quilts; along with vintage cars and tractors. Also onsite were City of Clare Fire Department firemen and fire truck.

In all, it was a very busy day, and a grand closing of the Historical Society’s summer activities.
