Thank you for the great article about "the Mid Michigan Tustins.” It was awesome! The article was spot on, not only about the basketball team, but also all the details of our everyday life and the daily details we were all a part of. All the memories from 57 years ago. My daughter, from the Clare area, sent it to me.
I'm Roger Priest....I was a member (and a captain) of that very first team.
We were all very fortunate to not only be the first, but the opportunity to have access to a college education, try to create a college life atmosphere, actually having a college ID! Create the foundations that still are in place. We were fortunate to receive an immediate college education (associate degree) and for many more, the basis to transfer on for even more education and opportunities. We, as the first students, also were able to help physically build Mid. We were able to work, preparing the NEW BUILDING. Many of us installed seating in the main auditorium, preparing the library, setting up labs. FROM COURTHOUSE TO MID CAMPUS. Selecting a student government to unite with the administration, working on growing pains. As the article stated, making new friends, not our old high school friends, but friends from other schools was very rewarding.
So again... great work on bringing back some memories, explaining "THE TUSTINS" in Mid historical lore. We also started a golf team (was a member) that year and a cross-country team. So, baby steps, but we were living college life, building as we went on. I'm thankful for my time at Mid (also on student government) and using that time and education to have a nice work career and early retirement.
THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES..... GO LAKERS!
