HARRISON – After the Pledge of Allegiance started at the June 16 Hatton Township Board meeting, Board members observed a moment of silence for the late William (Bill) Guiette, former trustee. The meeting proceeded with Chuck Rogalski being sworn in as the new trustee.
Jeff Smith also announced his retirement as the Hatton cemetery sexton due to health issues. He said there’s a lot of work to do: lawn maintenance and maintaining good recordkeeping of the graves.
Smith introduced his son, Sean, at the meeting, who he said would take his place to help upkeep grounds work for the most part but that he would still be around.
The Board thanked Smith for his service and he thanked them back.
The Board also approved a 365-day moratorium for data centers and plans to revise it to apply to solar panels and wind turbines. The moratorium addresses Board and community concerns for environmental protection and community interests.
Bill Hileman, township supervisor, said the moratorium is meant to slow these projects down so the township can act responsibly, rather than approve projects without looking into them first and gather community input.
