The Harrison track and field team took part in a Jack Pine Conference meet at Beaverton on Wednesday, April 29. The Harrison boys defeated host Beaverton and Standish-Sterling but lost to Gladwin. The Lady Hornets topped Beaverton as well but lost to Gladwin and Standish.
Highlighting the boys first, Adin Brewer (12.21) and Clayten Austin (12.31) were second and third in the 100-meter dash and Austin was fourth in the 200. Jayden Bobzien won the 400 with a 52.15, Collin Dennis was third in the 800 (2:08) and Logan Young was second in the 1600 (4:50) and third in the 3200 (12:47). Tyler Quitliano was fourth in the 110 hurdles and he was second in the 300 hurdles (46.67).
The Hornets had two winning relays as well. The 4x400 (4:00) won thanks to runs by Bobzien, Ray Cosgroe, Dennis and Deon Simmons and the 4x800 (9:34) won thanks to Cosgrove, Dennis, Bobzien and Logan Young.
Hunter LaFeve was sixth in the discus and ninth in the shot put, Bobzien took fourth in the high jump and Gavin Jansen won the pole vault with a 10’0”. Quitliano was also second in the long jump with a distance of 18’0”.
For the Lady Hornets, Sam Hopkins took care of the sprint events, winning both the 100 and the 200 with times of 13.32 and 27.82. Madison Wheaton won the 400 with a 1:05.35 and Layla Rock was fifth in the 1600 (6:35). Lydia Kendall placed third in the 300 hurdles at 52.11 and she was sixth in the 100 hurdles. They also had a second-place relay in the 4x100 (53.92), thanks to Madison Wheaton, Alivia Winters, Melissa Hopkins and S. Hopkins.
In the shot put, Dyanne Andrews was second with a throw of 30’5.5” and Winters was second in the discus, with a throw of 108’4”. Kirby was second in the high jump; Madalynne Gross was sixth in the pole vault and S. Hopkins won the long jump thanks to her distance of 16’0.5”.
Harrison heads to the Jack Pine Conference championship meet on Saturday in Shepherd.
