On Sunday, April 06, 2025 at 10:43 p.m., Deputies with the Clare County Sheriff Office observed a red 2008 Honda Fit traveling on Filter Road near Bert Road in the Township of Hayes, county of Clare. This vehicle did not have any operable headlights. The Deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the Honda Fit, however the driver, 21 year old William Rydell Yats from Harrison, accelerated and refused to stop. During the pursuit, a Deputy attempted to use spike strips on William, who veered his car towards the Deputy and his patrol car almost striking the Deputy. William lost control of his vehicle and struck a tree located at a residence on Grant Ave.
After the crash, William ran on foot, and was chased and caught by the Deputies. Deputies located a plastic bag containing methamphetamine inside William’s pocket. William was placed under arrest and lodged in the Clare County Jail on the following charges: Once count of Possession of Methamphetamine, once count Flee and Elude a Police Officer 3rd Offense, one count Assault with a Dangerous Weapon, two counts of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, one count of Operating a Motor Vehicle while License Suspended, and one count of Possession of an Open Container in a Vehicle. William was also charged as a Habitual Offender Fourth Offense, and lodged on several outstanding warrants and violation of a bond condition. William was arraigned in the 80th District Court Clare County. His bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety on the new charges. He remains lodged in the Clare County Jail.
