Geraldine was born October 21, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan the daughter of Edward Aloysious Smith and Marion Violet (Hocholeck) Smith.                 Geraldine grew up in Detroit as the youngest of three girls in a devout Catholic family. Her father passed away when she was 13 leaving her widowed mother the task of raising her, and also served as Geraldine’s inspiration to succeed in life. She attended a Catholic school where she developed and established friendships that lasted the rest of her life. For her personal aspiration and to give her children a lifestyle that she was unable to have growing up, she joined the workforce in the retail business field. From there she was able to obtain a position with the United States Army as a civilian servant where she was able to progress through her career from a secretary in a security office until she reached the respected and accomplished position of Executive Administrative Secretary to the Director of Tank Automotive Research Development and Engineering Center. Geraldine was someone with a generous heart. She and her husband purchased a house on Little Long Lake in Harrison as a place where the family could come together and share the fruits of their labor. Upon the passing of her husband, she moved to Harrison permanently where she continued making new friends and became an active member of St. Athanasius Catholic Church.
