Clare was able to take care of things in their Jack Pine Conference girls soccer game against Pinconning on Tuesday, April 7. The Lady Pioneers were hosting the Lady Spartans, and they scored four first half goals and made it stick for a 4-1 victory.
Ivy Russell opened the scoring, sending the ball in past the goalie at the 27-minute mark. Isabel Winkler followed that with her first goal of the year about three minutes later, sending the ball in from about six yards out to make it 2-0.
Russell connected for her second goal of the contest with about 15 minutes to play in the half to make it 3-0. Russell added another one to make it a hat trick, as with about three minutes left in the half, she blasted a shot that hit the post, then it bounced off the goalie and beyond the goal line for a 4-0 lead.
The Spartans did score on a corner kick in the final moments of the first half, but Clare was able to play out the win in the second half.
Kaitlin Zeilinger was in goal and made eight saves.
On Wednesday, April 8, Clare lost a low-scoring home Jack Pine Conference game to Ogemaw Heights, 1-0.
“Due to a few injuries and some other players that could not be at the game, we were down to 13 players,” head coach Jim Bond said.
The Lady Falcons scored 21 minutes into the game, for the only goal of the night.
“Although both teams had good opportunities, no one else scored the rest of the game and it ended 1-0,” Bond said.
Zeilinger was in net and made two saves.
Clare (1-2-2 overall, 1-2-1 Jack Pine) was at Shepherd on Tuesday, they are set to play at Standish-Sterling today (Thursday), they will be at home with Bullock Creek on Tuesday and on Thursday, April 23, they head for Beaverton
