Food Pantry Seeks New Home

Posted

The Gathering United Methodist Church at 3090 N. Clare Ave will be holding its final worship service at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 26. The Gathering was launched on April 9, 2006. The General Conference of the Methodist Church made this decision determining it could no longer financially support this mission church.

Sadly, this also means that Compassion Counts Food Pantry housed and run by The Gathering will be forced to close its doors as of Oct. 30. This pantry has been serving the needs of the community for the past 17 years. They currently feed about 400 families per month with a total of approximately 1,000 people per month and new people signing up every week.

It is their hope that another organization would feel the calling to take on the food pantry. The current volunteers would be happy to help in any way possible and would be willing to donate all of the freezers, shelves, and other supplies used to operate the food pantry. The Greater Lansing Food Bank is a huge asset to the food pantry and would continue their support.

Nonprofit organizations willing to consider taking ownership of the Compassion County Food Pantry please contact their director Anita at 989-539-9234 or assistant director Tammy at 989-329-6785.

The pantry will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday until Oct. 30.
