The Farwell track and field team will be led by first year head coach Wyatt Tubbs this spring. He doesn’t have a whole bunch of upperclassmen on the roster, but he does have plenty of talent to go around on both the girls’ and boys’ teams.

“We have a young team this year, very few seniors, yet the team dynamic is strong, and these are looking forward to a challenge,” Tubbs said of the team. “The focus in early season practice has all been strength and building aerobic baseline. Building power in the legs for high output and long sustained runs for durability.”

The Farwell girls won their part of the Jack Pine Conference last year, and they return Alexis Johnston (mid-distance), Aubrianna Terrian (mid-distance), Colelee Linton (throws), Gabrielle Fick (throws), Hunter Green (sprints), Janelle Fouts (mid-distance), Jasmine Green (throws), Kacey Steinert (sprints), Mariah DeGeer (sprints), Marley Allbee (sprints), Mathilde Biennier (sprints), Megan Steinert (sprints), Mia Dailey (sprints), Mya Yarhouse (sprints), Paris Gutirrez (throws), Paycee Gransden (mid-distance), Savannah Krabill (sprints) and Willow Hopper (distance).

New to the girl’s team will be Emma Barnett (mid-distance), Ines Ferrer (sprints) and Millie McAulay (mid-distance).

As for the boys, they return Aiden Brettingham (sprints), Blake Sholes (mid-distance), Braylin Bailey (sprints), Cian Carr (sprints), Conner Cousineau (distance), Dekklyn Hect (sprints), Hayden Roberts (sprints), Jordan Blain (sprints), Keegan Terrian (mid-distance), Mason Esterline (sprints), Memphis Peever (distance), Nathan Dean (sprints), Paxton Terrian (distance), Rylee Sprague (mid-distance), Treyton Lassen (sprints) and Tristan Szott (sprints).

New for the boys will be Blake Larsen (mid-distance), Brian Brown (mid-distance), Clayton Lutes (distance), Fabian Holtman (mid-distance), Marcos Quero (mid-distance), Theodor Gelbert (mid-distance) and Zane Hanna (mid-distance).

“The two team leaders that standout the most are Rylee Sprague and Aubrianna Terrian, both have the attitude and virtues that excel in a high demand environment,” Tubbs said. “The main goal for this season is to see dramatic increase in where our standards are. To raise the bar of expectations and backfill the next generations. We have a few kids looking to break school records. They are within reach of it. The measure for our success is individual progress and character development across the board.”

Farwell was scheduled to host a Jack Pine Conference meet on Wednesday, and they also head to Chippewa Hills on Saturday.

“We have an extremely competitive conference,” Tubbs said. “In the Jack Pine Conference championship last year, many of the top three times for the boys would be breaking our current school records. We as a team need to progress and meet the new standards of athletic output in our area. The hope for the early season is finding placement. With a young team there’s a lot of runners still finding their spot, they got a lot to prove, and they are ready to do it.”
