It was a nice winning start to the season for the Farwell softball team. The Lady Eagles swept host Merrill on Wednesday, March 25 and then one a single game over Vestaburg one day later.
“I was so proud of my girls the first few games,” head coach Emily Lauer said. “They had so much fun and really gained some confidence in themselves the first two games. The third game was a little trying with the rain, but they came together and knew what they needed to do and got the job done.”
In game one at Merrill, Farwell claimed a 19-1 victory. Alaina Slocum got the win, tossing three innings and giving up one run and striking out five batters.
Karleigh Ames led the offense with two doubles and one single. Slocum also had a two run double.
In game two, the Eagles pulled off a 19-3 victory. Anna Vanbuskirk got the win in the circle this time, tossing three innings and giving up three runs, one earned on two hits while striking out five and walking one.
Allena Wunderlich was unstoppable at the plate, going four-for-four with one home run over the fence and three doubles. Ames also had a two run single in the game and Wunderlich had a double that drove in a run.
On Thursday it was an 8-5 home win over Vestaburg. The contest was called after three innings due to rain, canceling the nightcap as well.
Vanbuskirk got the win pitching, giving up five runs, one earned on three hits, while striking out two and walking two. Slocum also came in to throw an inning of scoreless relief.
Slocum had two hits and one RBI in the victory as well.
Farwell (3-0 overall) is set to return to play Friday, April 10 when they head for Breckenridge.
