While they were finally able to get outside in recent days, it was certainly a rough start to the season weatherwise for area teams; Farwell golf included.
“My early thoughts on this team are they want to get this season started,” first year head coach Jim Lard said. “We can only hit so many balls inside into a net before everyone wants to hit the range and course.”
Returning to the team will be seniors Marshall Gould, Kylar McAulay, Illia Kryvenko as well as juniors Brayden Travis and Zane Hanna.
lso on the team are seniors Camero Letz and Ian Joyce, sophomore Demir Ozedmir and freshmen Jamison Santure, Parker Tatara and Treyton Lassen.
“We have already had to cancel our first match, so the weather has not been our friend, but this has shown me that this group is dedicated to getting better,” Lard said. “Team goals at this point are very simple: compete, compete, compete against each other against conference foes and against the courses we play. Individual goals range from making the team that gets to play in the matches to all conference and making the state tournament.”
The local golf scene will look a bit different as well, as golf is now an official Jack Pine Conference sport.
“I have a pretty good group of student athletes that are dedicated competitors so I believe that we can give everybody a run for their money,” Lard said. “The first few meets will be a time for us to work out the rust and see who really wants to play. It will give me time to rotate the lineup a bit to give players a chance to showcase themselves. With the veteran players and a mix of underclassmen I believe it should be a great season.”
Farwell hosts a JPC meet today (Thursday) at Eagle Glen Golf Course.
