The Farwell girls’ basketball team found a long-awaited victory on Friday. The Lady Eagles were playing at Carson City-Crystal, where they claimed their first win of the year, 37-22.
“They played really good as a team,” head coach Chris Fouts said.
Janelle Fouts hit an early three pointer for Farwell, but they were behind 9-7 after one. Joslyn Szott hit three free throws in the second, and Farwell was able to inch in front at the half, 13-11.
The Eagles found their offense touch in the third, pouring in 16 points; led by Emma Barnett who had six in the quarter and Mia Dailey who had five. Leading 29-22 entering the fourth, Farwell was able to hold Carson City scoreless, while they put in eight more points of their own.
The Eagles were led by Mia Dailey with 10 points, Emma Barnett had eight and Fouts finished with six points.
On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Farwell lost its Jack Pine Conference crossover game in Gladwin, 41-34.
“The girls worked really hard in the game,” Fouts said.
Fouts led the Eagles with 11 points in this one and Alaina Slocum put in six points. Karleigh Ames also had a three pointer in the first quarter.
Farwell (1-21 overall) took on Lakeview on Monday in their Division 3 district opening game at Morley Stanwood. The winner of that game took on host Morley Stanwood on Wednesday, while Beal City and Montabella battled in the other semi-final. The winner of Friday’s district final is set to play in a regional semi-final on Monday, held at Lake City.
