The Farwell girls’ basketball team continued their late season trend of solid play in their district opener. The Lady Eagles we retaking on Lakeview in a Division 3 district quarterfinal game at Morley Stanwood on Monday, March 2, dropping a tough battle, 43-40 in a contest that wasn’t decided until overtime.

The Lady Wildcats got up on the Lady Eagles 7-4 after the first quarter and they were in front 15-10 at the half. They were still behind 23-18 entering the fourth, but the Eagles rallied to send it to overtime; only to see things come up short in the final moments.

The Eagles were led by Janella Fouts who had 15 points, Alaina Slocum had 13 and Teconnama Hammond added six points, four of which came in the first quarter. Emma Barnett chipped in with three points, Mya Yarhouse was able to net two and with one point was Mia Dailey.

Farwell finishes the season 1-22 overall, but their final three games, including a 37-22 win over Carson City-Crystal in their regular season finale, were some of their best showings of the season. That’s something they hope can carry over into the off-season.

“The girls played really hard and finished the season with some good momentum for next year,” head coach Chris Fouts said. “For next year, we should be in a better place. Most of our team will be returning and we should be able to compete much better.”
