(Midland, MI) – Disability Network Mid-Michigan (DNMM) is hosting a free community event on Wednesday, July 16, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Haithco Park in Saginaw. This event celebrates the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) being signed into law.

The event features games and accessible recreation, sponsored by DTE, food vendors, and live music from Stone Street Revival, sponsored by Meijer. Local resources and community organizations will have vendor booths providing information about the services they provide. Throughout the park, attendees will notice signs and banners detailing the history of the ADA and describing how its passage has impacted the lives of people with disabilities.

Disability Network Mid-Michigan serves twelve counties and is thrilled to host this annual celebration in Saginaw this year. The event is free of charge and open to the public. The first 400 attendees will receive free food vouchers.

“As we celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, we recognize both how far we’ve come and how much work remains,” said Kelly PeLong, Executive Director of Disability Network Mid-Michigan. “At a time when hard-won civil rights are being challenged across the country, this anniversary reminds us of the power of advocacy, community, and persistence. We’re proud to stand with our community to honor this landmark legislation and to recommit ourselves to the ongoing fight for full inclusion, access, and equity for all people with disabilities.”

A federally funded Center for Independent Living, DNMM provides an array of services to people of all ages with many types of disabilities. DNMM is dedicated to creating accessible and inclusive communities and to promoting independence for all people with disabilities.
