CMDHD Promoting National WIC Enrollment Week, October 5-9

Posted

Central Michigan District Health Department (CMDHD) is promoting National WIC Enrollment Week: October 5-9, 2026. The week highlights the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program and encourages eligible families to learn more and apply.

WIC is a free program that helps families get healthy foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support, and referrals to health care and other community resources. WIC is available to eligible pregnant and postpartum people, breastfeeding people, infants, and children under age 5. Parents, grandparents, foster parents, and other caregivers can apply for eligible children in their care.

“WIC provides more than access to healthy foods,” said Rachael Shilman, CMDHD WIC Coordinator. “Our team helps families with nutrition information, breastfeeding support, and connections to other community services. If you are pregnant or caring for a young child, we encourage you to learn more to find out if WIC can help.”

To qualify, families must meet income and residency requirements. Those enrolled in Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or other assistance programs may also qualify for WIC.

To learn more about WIC services offered through CMDHD, visit CMDHD’s WIC page or call 989-314-7570. Families can also check their eligibility through the Michigan WIC program.
