The Clare volleyball team didn’t have the result they wanted on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The Lady Pioneers were playing at Gladwin in Jack Pine Conference play, where they lost in straight sets, 25-11, 25-20 and 25-21.
“Gladwin came out strong and got the better of us,” head coach Shannon Taylor said. “We struggled in serve receive, which made it difficult to get into rhythm offensively. While it wasn’t our best showing, there were still bright spots, including some strong serving runs and senior Kyley Wyman surpassing 550 career kills, a milestone that speaks to her consistency and impact over the past four seasons.”
The coach is hoping that her team can use this match as a learning experience, as they head into the final few weeks of the regular season.
“This match serves as an important reminder of the details we need to clean up as we prepare for the final stretch,” Taylor said. “We’re still in a very competitive position in the conference, and we know what we’re capable of when we play our style of volleyball. We’re looking forward to getting back in the gym, making adjustments and finishing strong as we head toward the postseason.”
As for Wyman reaching 550 career kills, that’s obviously quite the feat for the well-decorated athlete.
“She’s a four-year varsity player and six-rotation leader for us, she continues to be a cornerstone of Clare’s success,” Taylor said. “Known for her defensive grit, powerful serving, and consistent offensive play, Kyley brings more than just skill to the court; she brings energy, leadership, and a contagious competitive spirit that fuels her teammates. Her hard work and dedication over the past four seasons have made her one of Clare’s most well-rounded and dependable players.”
Clare was at Beaverton on Monday, they hosted Farwell on Wednesday, they head for Meridian on Monday and they are scheduled to host Pinconning on Wednesday, Oct. 22.
