Clare track sweeps home JPC Meet

The Clare track and field team hosted a Jack Pine Conference double dual on Wednesday, April 15. The Pioneers were able to have both their boys’ and girls’ teams sweep their opponents, topping Pinconning and Gladwin.

Highlighting the boys first, Jacob Halicek won the 100 (10.7), and he was followed by Conan Weeks and Mason Heintz in second and third. Halicek also won the 200 (23.1) and in second and third was Silas Donaldson and Judah Woods. Donaldson was second in the 400 with a 53.9, Clayton Peacock was second in the 800 with a 2:07, Connor Schmidt managed a second place run in the 1600 (4:51) and Schmidt was a winner in the 3200, getting an 11:11. Joseph Haupt was also second din the 3200.

In the hurdles, Donovan Hoogerhyde won the 110 and Conan Weeks won the 300, with times of 16.3 and 41.7. Clare also swept first place in all four relays.

As for the shot put, Brendan Burton took second with a throw of 45’11.5” and James Brown was a winner in the discus with a distance of 135’0”, followed by Colin Barber who was second.

Kolten Pung won the high jump (6’0”), with Hoogerhyde taking second and Tyler Thompson coming in third. Marshal Strouse won the pole vault (12’3”) and in the long jump it was Weeks, Kage Greenfield and Hoogerhyde taking the top three spots, with weeks getting a measured distance of 20’0”.

For the Lady Pioneers, they had a one-two-three finish in the 100-meter dash, with Abby Boyd winning with a 12.8. followed by Bella Pascaretti and Ivy Russell. Boyd also won the 200 at 27.1 with Pascaretti coming in second and Alison Villa-Bilton won the 400 with a 1:03.9, followed by Lauren Leis in second. Sophia Buzzelli was a winner in the 800 at 2:41, she also won the 1600 at 5:45, with Elizabeth Letherer and Leah Leis following in second and third. Emma Stotzel won the 3200 (13:16) and taking second was Letherer.

They also had winning relays in the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x800.

In the shot put, Aleigha Finkbeiner was second with a throw of 34’2.5”, while Tangelia Finkbeiner was third in the discus with her heave of 89’7”. Brooklinn Barcia was second in high jump at 4’6”, Maya Haley was second in the pole with a 7’0” and Boyd won the long jump with a bound of 16’7.5. Letherer was also third in the high jump and Russell was second in the long jump.

Clare hosted another league meet on Wednesday, they host the Clare Invitational on Friday, and they’ll be at Farwell this coming Wednesday.
