Clare track sweeps first place in home invite

The Clare track and field teams served as hosts to an early season invitational on Friday. The Pioneers were able to shine in the 10-team event, as both their boys’ and girls’ teams were able to take first place.

Leading the way for the boys was Mason Heintz taking fifth in the 100, Jacob Halicek won the 200 (23.16), Judah Woods was fifth in the 400 and Kona Crump was fifth in the 800. Conner Schmidt was fifth in 1600 and fourth in 3200 while Conan Weeks won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.05. Donavan Hoogerhyde and Silas Donaldson were second and third in the 300 hurdles and their relay teams took first place points in the 4x100 and 4x200.

In the shot put, Brendan Burton took second with a throw of 46’2”, James Brown was a winner in the discus with a toss of 138’2” and Colin Barber was third in both throwing events. Kolten Pung was second in the high jump, Marshal Strouse won the pole vault at 11’6” and Weeks took the top spot in the long jump at 20’1.5”. Kage Greenfield was also second in the long jump.

On the girls’ side, Abby Boyd was second in the 100 and first in the 200, clocking times of 13.39 and 27.55. Ava Robinson was fifth in the 500 and Sophia Buzzelli was able to win the 800 with a time of 2:34. Emma Stotzel was third in 1600 and fourth in 3200 while Tayden Dunkle was third in the 100 hurdles and Elyse Harmon was third in the 300 hurdles. The Lady Pioneers won the 4x100 relay and they had second place finishes in the 4x400 and 4x800.

In the shot put, Aleigha Finkbeiner was fourth and Tangelia Finkbeiner was fifth and, in the discus, T. Finkbeiner was third. Brooklinn Barcia was sixth in the high jump; Madison Root was second in the pole vault at 7’6” and Abby Boyd was second in the long jump with a distance of 16’07.5”.

Harrison was also at the meet, and their boys team finished seventh and their girls were fourth.

Some top finishers for the boys included Adin Brewer in seventh in the 100, Jayden Bobzein was third in the 400 and Ray Cosgrove was 10th in the 800. Logan Young was fifth in the 3200 and 12th in 1600. They had a second-place finish in the 4x800 relay and a third-place finish in the 4x400 relay.

Hunter LaFave finished ninth in discus, Bobzien was eighth in the high jump, Gavin Jansen was fifth in the pole vault and Alexandre Jansen finished 10th in the long jump.

For the Lady Hornets, Sam Hopkins was third in the 100 and second in the 200 with times of 13.54 and 28.00, Madison Wheaton was fourth in the 400, Layla Rock was seventh in the 3200 and Lydia Kendall was fifth in the 100 hurdles and second in the 300 (56.88). They added a second-place finish in the 4x100 relay.
