The Clare girl’s soccer team had no answer for red-hot Standish-Sterling on Tuesday, May 13. The Lady Panthers have been atop the Jack Pine Conference all season and are led by junior Analeis Ming, a junior who has scored well over 50 goals this spring, and her freshman sister Charlotte Ming, and they did major damage again in this one; handing the visiting Lady Pioneers an 8-0 league setback.
“Not much to say other than they played well and we did not,” head coach Jim Bond said. “It was just one of those days when we were struggling across the board.”
On Friday, Clare hosted Bullock Creek in another JPC contest, dropping a close one, 2-1.
“Although we played better, we still lost,” Bond said. “It was one of those games where we played pretty well defensively, but they just took advantage of the couple of chances we gave them. On the other side we had plenty of chances but only found the back of the net once.”
Fiona Mulero scored the team’s only goal.
Clare (5-7-1 overall) was at Houghton Lake on Monday and had their Division 3 district opener at Reed City on Wednesday. The winner of that game plays at Traverse City St. Francis on Tuesday.
