Clare City Commissioners Awards Recognitions to Community Members

Clare Mayor, Pat Humphrey, gave recognition awards to Christine Smith and Mike Smith at the June 1 Clare City Commission meeting. The Commission also approved fee and rate schedules for the 26/27 fiscal year.

Humphrey presented a Mayoral Certificate and a Key of Excellence to Christine Smith after she was recognized as the 2026 Woman of the Year at the CFX Salute to Working Women event. 

Through this mayoral excellence award, she was recognized for her many tremendous achievements and great value to the greater Clare area as both a member of the community and a business owner.

“We are indeed fortunate and proud of the fact that she has chosen to be an integral part of the city of Clare; she is unequivocally proven and demonstrated that she is worthy of this award,” Humphrey said.

Mike Smith was recognized for his service as a longstanding member of the Airport Advisory Board from 1999 to 2026. He has been an integral part of making the Clare Airport thrive like it is today, Humphrey said.

“I didn’t do it for the recognition,” Mike said.

The Commission also approved appointment of local pilot Paul Cole as a new member of the Airport Advisory Board.

Margie Dill, who was on the City Parks and Recreation Advisory Board from 2016 to 2026, was not present at the meeting. The commissioners said they will recognize her at their June 15 meeting.
