HARRISON – The 40th Annual Twenty Lakes Antique Engine and Tractor Show took place June 12-15, with visitors welcomed and treated to some of the past’s most interesting problem-solving engines, devices and contraptions. Also scheduled were vendors and displays of vintage snowmobiles, tractors galore, sawmill and blacksmithing demonstrations, a lawn tractor race, and some fun directed toward kids.
In town, the Saturday action revolved around Harrison City Park where a first-ever event dubbed “Summer Sizzler Festival” brought out some 300 visitors of all ages. They enjoyed food truck fare, craft and food vendors (yup, including humongous cookies), live classic rock music performed by Night Shift, a five-teams cornhole tournament, and lots of fun for the kids – including a pool of bubble solution, into which participants dipped a rope attached to short handles they then swung to create huge bubbles.
Both events were blessed with enthusiastic participants, and some of the best-yet weather of the season – sun and breezes on days originally forecasted for rain.
Now it’s on to more local summer fun Saturday, July 5 at the VFW Post 1075 Star Spangled Car, Truck & Bike Show [and of course the fireworks at the Clare County Fairground that evening], followed July 21-26 by the 142nd Clare County Fair – one of the oldest county fairs in the state, and less than five weeks away!
