HARRISON – The Freedom 5K Run/Walk is conducted in memory of Spc. Robert Friese and all those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. This Walk/Run is always a well-attended event, and this year’s 14th event was no exception. The awareness of this event’s importance to the community was evidenced by the solid participation of 193 registrants, including those registering a time, as well as those who chose to complete the entire route or only a portion of it but not to time their races. Of course, weather always plays a part, and this year’s brisk, windy weather no doubt affected the actual participation turnout.
This year’s April 26 race commenced at 10 a.m. with runners bursting energetically from the starting line for the 3.1-mile timed race. Walkers followed, holding to their own pace as they, too, honored fallen veterans as well as helped to raise funds for maintenance and operation of Veterans Freedom Park.
