 Sheriff Department release

At 3:47 a.m. Jan. 1, Clare County Central Dispatch received a call of an assault that had occurred, where the suspect had stolen the victim’s vehicle from Scooter’s Airport Bar in Hayes Township, Clare County. Responding deputies arrived at the bar and found that the victims, 24-year-old Todd Newman of Harrison and 38-year-old Michael Kramer of Harrison, were assaulted in the parking lot by a 43-year-old male, Andrew Munro of Clare. It was further found that Newman had gone back into the bar prior to leaving, when Munro had stolen his 2020 Chevrolet Malibu. Through further investigation, the vehicle was located by OnStar in the area of Colonville Road and Grant Avenue. Clare City Police were able to locate the vehicle, unoccupied at the time. Further investigation led police to a residence on Mineral Street within the City of Clare, where Munro was located. Deputies obtained and executed a search warrant for the residence, locating Munro inside. Munro was arrested and lodged in the Clare County Jail.

On Jan. 2, Munro was arraigned in 80th District Court by magistrate Steven Worpell on the charges of Unlawful Driving Away of an Automobile; Assault and Battery; two counts of Resist and Obstruct the Police, and Habitual Offender 4th set forth by Clare County Prosecutor Andrew Santini. Bond for Munro was set at $50,000 cash/surety 10 %. Munro remained in the Clare County Jail.
