Sheriff Department release
At 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31, the Clare County Central Dispatch received a call from a subject living in Lake, reporting his vehicle had been stolen. A deputy with the Clare County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to an address on North Shore Drive in Garfield Township, where the deputy met with the victim. During the investigation, it was determined the victim’s 2024 Chevrolet Trax, which had been parked in the garage, had been taken without the owner’s permission.
A short time after the vehicle was reported stolen, deputies located the stolen vehicle on Lake Station Avenue near Rolling Road. When the deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver of the vehicle accelerated instead of stopping. During the pursuit of the stolen vehicle, deputies were able to contact OnStar Corp., which was able to slow and stop the stolen vehicle. Once the vehicle was stopped, the driver and a passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies were able to locate the driver, who was identified as Codi Medford, a 30-year-old Farwell man, and take him into custody. The passenger, 29-year-old Farwell woman Dru Tyler, was located a short time later and taken into custody for a bond violation.
Medford was charged with one count of Motor Vehicle-Unlawful Driving Away, one count of Flee and Eluding a Police Officer 4th degree, one count of Resisting and Obstructing a Police Officer, and one count of driving with a Suspended License. He was arraigned Jan. 3 in 80th District Court Clare County. His bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety/10 % on the new charges. At the time of the incident Medford had two Failure to Appear warrants. Bond for those warrants was set at $10,000 cash or surety/10% on the first and $5,000 cash only on the second warrant. He remains lodged in the Clare County Jail.
