BETTY JEAN HALES

Betty Jean Hales,
age 78, of Clare, passed away Friday, May 1, 2009. Betty was born to
Cashus and Gladys (Mitchell) Bailey on May 23,1930 in Harrison,
Michigan. She was united in marriage to Raymond J. Hales on November 5,
1949. He predeceased her on March 18, 2004. Betty was formerly employed
at Holley Carburetor and Clare Osteopathic Hospital, from where she
retired in 1986. In retirement, Betty enjoyed camping with her family
and bird watching.
She is survived by her children Larry (Susan) Hales, Bruce (Carrie)
Hales and Dean (Judy) Hales, all of Clare, as well as her grandchildren
Andrea Hales, Gwen (Chris) Papp, Christine (Dan) Gallihugh, Blake Hales,
Nimer Aleck II, Mitchell (Ashlee) Hales, Eva Mae Hales and Cassandra
Hales and great grandchildren Ethan Hales, Nora Gallihugh, Rowan and
Saoirse Papp. She is also survived by her siblings Jack (Maxine) Bailey,
David Bailey, Joan (Don) Ellsworth and sisters in-law Marge Bailey and
Alma Bailey. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Rex, Stanley,
George, Nelson, and Donald Bailey, her sister Maxine Bitler, an infant
daughter and a granddaughter, Aubrey Ann Hales.
Services for Betty took place on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 11 AM from
the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home. Friends visited from
2 - 5 PM and 7-9 PM on Monday, May 4th.

ALEXANDRA WERSINGER
Alexandra "Ellie"
Wersinger, age 78, of Harrison, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009
at MidMichigan Medical Center in Clare. She was born the daughter of
Ivan and Anna (Prypchan) Hryculak on July 17, 1930, in the Ukraine. She
married Marvin Wersinger who preceded her in death in 1982. Ellie had
been a Nursing Assistant at Northwest General Hospital in Detroit and
had moved to Harrison six years ago from Pennsylvania. She attended
functions at the Hayes Twp. Senior Center, was a member of the Harrison
Garden Club, and enjoyed playing bingo.
Ellie is survived by her son, Carl Dellinger of Harrison,
grandchildren, Sherri LaFeve, Erin, Ryan, and Carleigh Dellinger, Great
grandchildren, Abigale and Kaylee High, and Hunter LaFeve. She is also
survived by her sister Myra in Pennsylvania.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial
service will be held at a later date. Arrangements for cremation were
made by Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Homes.
Luncheon and memorial will be at the VFW Hall on May 16, 2009 from
11:30 to 2:30.

MARION HOWARD FRYE
Marion Howard Fry,
passed away April 13, 2009. He was born in Harrison, Michigan May 28,
1937 to Francis and Sylvia Fry. On June 22, 1958 he married Carol Lynn
Schiemann. They moved to Washington in 1960. Marion retired from the
Olympia Brewery in December of 1998.
Marion and Carol celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on June
22, 2008 with their children Marilyn (Bill) Williams, Rose (LaVern)
Farrar, Robert (Kim) Fry and grandchildren Randi, Lacie, Allison, Emily,
Kenton, Nicole and Logan, and great grandchildren Hailey, Madison and
Ava. Marion enjoyed puttering around his farm with his dogs and cows.
Marion is also survived by his brother Charles (Bertha) Fry of Harrison,
Michigan and many nieces, nephews and friends. Services were held at
Mills and Mills Funeral Home on Saturday, April 18, 2009.

DEAN EDWIN GLEASON, JR.

Dean Edwin Gleason, Jr., age 70 of
Harrison, passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at his home. He was born on
September 8, 1938 in Clare, Michigan, the son of Dean E. and Grace
(Darling) Gleason/Ladd. Mr. Gleason served in the United States Navy.
Dean was a member of the American Legion Post 404, the Harrison
Moose Lodge and the Fraternal Order of Eagles #3541 of Harrison. He was
also co-owner of the Gleason-Gassman Insurance Agency.
Surviving Mr. Gleason are three daughters, Jessica Gleason of
Lansing, Michigan, Ranee Davis and husband Daniel of Rochester Hills,
Michigan and Faith Tyler and husband David of Leslie, Michigan, three
sons, Scott Gleason of Shelby Township, Michigan, Gregg Gleason of
Richmond, Michigan and Kent Gleason and his wife Joanna of Oakland
Township, Michigan, one sister, Janet Gassman and husband Clarence of
Harrison, twelve grandchildren and several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will take place on Thursday, May 7, 2009 at 11:00
am from Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison with Pastor Jim Young
officiating. Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Wednesday,
May 6, 2009. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted under the
auspices of the American Legion Post 404. Final resting place will be in

CLAYTON HAWKINS JR.
Clayton Melvin (Jerry) Hawkins Jr.,
age 79, of Harrison, passed away in his home on May 2, 2009. He was born
in Grand Rapids, MI, the son of Clayton M. and Edna (Brown) Hawkins on
March 20, 1930. Jerry was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Bronkema on
June 30, 1952; Barbara preceded him in death in 2005. Jerry served in
the Navy until 1960 and then owned/operated several golf courses
including Saskatoon and Tyler Creek in Alto, MI, The Tamaracks in
Harrison and Stony Point in Manistique.
Surviving are his children Mike and Trena Hawkins, Steve & Barbie
Hawkins, Tom & Sharon Hawkins all of Harrison, Sue and Tom Lutz of
Holland, Liz and Bub Krchmar of Harrison. Grandchildren Sherri and Andy
St. Denis, Zac and Brittany Hawkins, Megan Hawkins, J.D. Krchmar, April
Lutz, Lindsey Hawkins, Sara Krchmar, Hunter Lutz, Stacy and Brad
Carlstrom, Autum Smith, and nine great-grandchildren. Brothers Dick and
Joyce Hawkins and Ray and Gert Hawkins of Caledonia. Numerous nieces,
nephews and friends. A small service for immediate family was held May
3, 2009. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Middle Michigan

ELMA WENDE
Elma Wende, age 76, of Clare, passed
away at her home on Saturday, May 2. She was born the daughter of Julius
and Augusta (Pfeifer) Lange, on Mar. 29,1933, in Wilcowitzen, Lithuania.
She married Hans Wende on June 13, 1953 in Bremen, Germany and he
survives her. Elma was a homemaker and moved to Clare from Warren,
Michigan (where she had lived for 26 years) 18 years ago. They had also
lived in Detroit and Montreal, Canada. Elma enjoyed knitting, reading,
and music.
Survivors include her husband Hans, a daughter, Regina (John)
Pirosko of Clare, a son, Werner Wende (Jody Paschen) of Macomb, MI,
Grandchildren, Jeffrey Pirosko (Rebecca Adams) of Clare, Jennifer (Fred)
McAvoy of Grand Blanc, Jason (Christina) Pirosko of Warren, Leanna Wende
of Clare, her Great grandchildren, Jayden Avery Pirosko, Landon Madison
McAvoy, Melina Pirosko, and her brothers, Siegmund (Margaret) Lange and
Julius (Olga) Lange all of Germany. Her brothers, Edward, Sep, and Willi,
and sister Anne Lang preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 7, at 11:00 AM from
the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home where friends may call
