LARRY D. SMITH
Lawrence Duane Smith,
was born May 17, 1936 in Midland, Michigan to Chloris (Miller) Smith and
Leroy Benson Smith and died April 16, 2006.
He graduated from Harrison Community Schools in 1955 after an
outstanding athletic career on Harrison’s first football team as well as
its baseball team.
Larry served two years in the U.S. Army and retired from Dow
Chemical Co. after 29 years. Larry married Anne MacArthur on June 30,
1958.
He leaves his wife Anne; son Mark and grandson Drew of Houghton
Lake, daughter Denise Robbins and husband Jim, and granddaughter Katy
and grandson Bryant of Midland, and daughter Tracey and husband John
Merillat and granddaughters Maggie and Molly of Clare. Also surviving
him are his mother “Corky”, his sister Barbara Knoertzer and husband
Willie of Gladwin, brother, Bill and Wife Connie of Harrison, and
sister-in-law Barbara Smith of Gaylord along with many beloved nieces,
nephews and grandnieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death be his father Roy, sister; Connie Juneac
and brother, Ken as well as nephews Kerry and Tim Knoertzer and niece
Angie Smith.
He leaves a great legacy of love and will long be remembered for
his gift of humor, his abiding faithfulness to his family and friends,
his zest for life, his ability to enjoy every day and his enjoyment of
his surroundings.
St. Augustine said, “The key to immortality is first to live a life
worth remembering.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that you remember him by

High School, 700 S. 5th St., Harrison, MI 48625 or giving your memorial
to Stephanie Cooper at Chemical Bank on North 1st Street, Harrison, MI.
Memorial services will be held on May 10, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. from
Stocking Funeral Home, Harrison with visitation from 12:00 p.m.-2:00
p.m.

MARY A. ELDER
Mary A. (Kerperien)
Elder, 72, of Harrison, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at
home. Mary was born May 9, 1933 in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of John
and Hilda (Stratmann) Kerperien. Mrs. Elder was united in marriage to
Thomas Elder on October 10, 1953 in Flint, Michigan.
Mrs. Elder was a member of the Long Lake Association and Women of the
Moose Harrison. Mary was a long time member of St. Athanasius Catholic
Church were she was a past parish council member, worked in the
finance/administration department and was also a member of the
befrienders-prayer ministries.
Surviving Mary is her loving husband Thomas; two daughters; Janet
M. and husband Benard Dorer of DeWitt and Renee M. and husband Kevin
Berry of Lansing, a brother; Francis W. Kerperien of Birch Run, two
sisters; Dolores and husband Harrison Root of Flushing and AnnMarie
Stephens of Flint, three grandchildren; Benard and Bryon Dorer and Sarah
Berry, several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her
parents, three brothers; Vincent, Leonard and Bernard.
Services were held Monday, May 1, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. from St.
Athanasius Catholic Church with Father Noel Rudy officiating. Interment
is in St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be
considered to Heartland Home Health Care & Hospice, 1426 Straits Drive,

STANLEY ROBERT WAGNER
Stanley Robert (Bob)
Wagner, 76, of Harrison, formerly of White Lake Township, Michigan,
passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at Covenant Healthcare in Saginaw,
Michigan. Bob was born August 13, 1929 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mr.
Wagner married Alberta Ellen Wolverton on February 14, 1953 in Pontiac,
Michigan.
Bob served in the United States Army from October 13, 1948 until
August 12, 1952. While serving he spent some time in the United States
Constabulary. He worked for General Motors at the Milford proving
grounds in Milford, MI from 1968 until 1987. Bob was a reserve police
officer for ten years with White Lake Township and Holly Police
Departments. He was a member of the American Legion Post-404 Harrison,
Michigan Sheriffs Association, U.S. Constabulary Association, Firebird
Amateur Radio Club, American Federation of Police, Past member of
Milford Amateur Radio Club and a past member of the Gladwin Area Amateur
Radio Club.
Mr. Wagner leaves behind his loving wife, Ellen, one son; Bruce D.
Wagner and wife Nancy and one granddaughter; Carrie Ellen Wagner all of
Harrison. Bob was preceded in death by one son, Dean Robert Wagner and
one grandson, Roy Samuel Wagner.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, April 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m.
from Stocking Funeral Home with Elder Dale Beavers officiating.
Interment is in Pleasant Plains Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be
considered to the American Legion Post 404-Harrison or Gladwin Area

CLYDE M. DOUGLAS
Clyde Marland Douglas,
88, of Harrison, formerly of Fenton, Michigan, passed away on April 27,
2006 at Bortz Health Care in Rose City, Michigan. He was born the son of
Clyde Jay and Bertha A. (Morse) Douglas on April 21, 1918 in Montrose,
Michigan. Clyde married the late Marietta Graves on June 24, 1937 in
Montrose. Mr. Douglas served in the United States Army during WWII.
Surviving are two sons; David (Ruth) Douglas and Ernest Douglas
both of Harrison, two daughters; Joan (Charles “DC”) Jackson of London,
Kentucky and Patricia Garritt of Harrison, three brothers; Wyman Douglas
(Maxine) of Alger, Michigan, Scotty Douglas (Edith) of Owosso, Michigan
and Gerald Douglas (Barbara) of Gladwin, three sisters; Merva Barnum of
Montrose, Verta of Swartz Creek and Beuliah of Clio, fourteen
grandchildren and many great grandchildren and several great great
grandchildren plus several nieces and nephews. Clyde was preceded in
death by his parents and wife Marietta on November 21, 2005.
Funeral services were held on April 29, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. from
Stocking Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Tanner officiating. Interment is
in Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Harrison. Memorial contributions may be
considered to the First Baptist Church of Harrison. Those wishing to
