MELVIN BRIEN KOHLER

   Melvin Brien Kohler, 38, of Midland, died Sunday March 1, 2009 at the MidMichigan Medical Center. He was born July 12, 1970 in Clare the son of Jerry and Wilma (Russell) Kohler. Melvin was a graduate of Harrison High School class of 1988 and received an associate's degree from Delta College. He was currently employed by the Dow Chemical Company as a computer technician. On July 19, 1992 he married the former Charmain F. Uzarraga in Chicago. Melvin enjoyed football and he especially favored the University of Michigan Wolverines. His favorite pastime was spending time with his boys. He took an active part in the lives of his sons and coached them in the sporting events they competed in.
   In addition to his wife and parents, he is, survived by his sons, Joshua and Jordan; brothers, Timothy (Nan) Kohler of Clare, Bill (Debbie) Kohler of Ingleside, Texas; sisters, Janice (Mike) Schafer of Clare, Lisa Robertson of Shepherd, Chari (Guy) Patterson of Flushing, Carrie (Dennis) Dixon of Gladwin, and step-grandfather Melvin Ockert of Zephyrhills, FL. He is also survived by Charmain's family from Chicago: brothers, Donald (Estrellita) Uzarraga, Ronald (Joy) Uzarraga; sisters, Carlynn (David) O'Brien and Cynthia (Rick) Russell, and parents, Oscar and Lina Uzarraga; and numerous nieces and nephews.
   Funeral services for Melvin will take place at 11a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Ware Smith Woolever Funeral Chapel, 1200 West Wheeler Street. Pastor Darryl Bentley of the Midland Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate with interment to follow in Midland City Cemetery. Melvin's family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. and again on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of service. STANLEY MANSFIELD OMAN

   Stanley Mansfield Oman - age 89, passed away on February 22, 2009 at North Woods Nursing Center in Farwell.
   Services for Mr. Oman will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at 11:00 AM, at the Campbell-Stocking Family Funeral Home in Farwell with burial at North Brinton Cemetery. Pastor Terry Hose officiated. Friends visited at the Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 from 2-4, and 6-8 PM.
   Mr. Oman was born on January 30, 1920 in Lake, MI, the son of Charles and Ann Oman. He was a resident of Lake his entire life. He married Barbara Tinkham on June 5, 1943, she preceded him in death on April 29, 2003. Stanley held many offices at the Township and County levels including County Commissioner, and was a member of the Clare County Fair Board. He also assisted many people with employment as head of the CETA Program.
   He is survived by two sons, Michael Oman of Burt, Patrick and wife Deb Oman of Farwell; two daughters, Elaine and husband William Paine of Farwell, Lisa and husband Dale Roland of Lake; five grandchildren, Heidi, Beth, Steven, James, Erin; four great-grandchildren, Colt, Carter, Zachary, Jayson, and much loved family friends Bill and Trudy Guith of Flint. THOMAS SPRINGSTEAD

   Thomas Edwin Springstead, 78, of Harrison, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Mid Michigan Medical Center-Clare. Mr. Springstead was born August 29, 1930 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Thomas Pearl and Helen (Matthews) Springstead. Mr. Springstead served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Thomas was united in marriage to the former Phyllis M. Strube on March 5, 1955 in Detroit.
   Mr. Springstead had resided in Harrison since 1991, coming from Warren, Michigan. Thomas enjoyed cutting and splitting firewood and was very talented at fixing and tinkering around the house.
   Surviving is his loving wife, Phyllis M. Springstead of Harrison, one son, Michael Springstead and wife Evelyn of Warren, four daughters: Kim Lee and husband Harvey of Algonac, Michigan, Jean Waeiss and husband James of Lachine, Michigan, Jennifer Hollingsworth of Warren and Dayna Tackett and husband Richard of Algonac, Michigan, two sisters: Pat McClary and husband Kenny of Meyersdale, Pennsylvania and Sharon Springstead of Warren, thirteen grandchildren, one great-grandson, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Springstead was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Bryan Springstead, one daughter, Beth Springstead and two sisters: Betty Hoffman and Noralee Christofferson.
   A private family memorial service will held at a later date. Inurnment will be in White Chapel Memorial Park Cemetery, Troy, Michigan. THOMAS L. MILLER

   Thomas L. Miller, 47, of Harrison, passed away Monday, March 2, 2009 at his home. Mr. Miller was born February 14, 1962 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Thomas L. and Sherill L. (Miller) Stevens.
   Mr. Miller was united in marriage to the former Kimberly A. Rundgren on June 7, 1997 in St. Clair Shores, Michigan. Thomas was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #2235 of Harrison. He was co-owner and operator of Shelby Canvas of Harrison, a vendor for several years at the Harrison Flea Market and past coach of Harrison Community Schools Youth Wrestling Program.
   Surviving is his loving wife, Kimberly A. Miller of Harrison, three sons: Michael Peters of Eastpointe, Michigan, Dustin Rundgren of Harrison and Glenn Miller of St. Clair, Michigan, three daughters: Amber Rosenbrock of Roseville, Michigan, Brandy Rosenbrock of Marquette, Michigan and Shelby Rundgren of Harrison, two god-daughters: Christina and Elizabeth Herring, one sister, Kimberly Miller of Eastpointe, Michigan, one granddaughter, Jayda Rosenbrock of Roseville, Michigan, plus several friends.
   In keeping with Mr. Miller's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. MARIAN BURMEISTER
October 14, 1927 - February 25, 2009

   Marian Grace Burmeister, age 81, passed away in Gladwin, Michigan, on Wednesday, February 25, 2009. She was born on October 14, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan to Alfred & Erna (Zessau) Burmeister. She was a Homemaker, living in Gladwin County most of her life, was an avid gardener, quilter, and farmer. She is survived by her niece: Ellen Polzien of Gladwin. Sht is preceded in death by her parents; sister: Doris Polzien; brother: Leonard Burmeister. Visitation was held on Saturday, February 28, 2009 from 10:00 A.M. then the service was at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, Gladwin, Michigan. Funeral Services were conducted on Saturday, February 28, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at Hall-Kokotovich Funeral Home, with Pastor Reed Schroer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gladwin Pines Christmas Party.
