ANITA M. SAUL

Anita M. Saul, 85, of Midland, died
on Sunday, March 8, 2009 at Tendercare in Midland.
Anita was born on June 26, 1923 in Greenwood Township, Clare County
to the late Miles and Blanche (Parmeter) Smalley. On Aug. 19, 1942,
Anita married her sweetheart John Saul in Clare. She loved to sew and
make quilts.
Anita is survived by her husband John; daughter Ellen (Jesse) Moon
of Van Buren, IN; grandchildren Ellen Keplinger of Huntington, IN, Susan
Mallernee of Fort Wayne, IN, Amy McCreery of Muncie, IN; 3 great
grandchildren; sisters Mina Root of Midland, Viva Cole of Gaines and
brother Oral Smalley of Harrison. She was preceded in death by an infant
son and 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
A funeral service will be held at Smith-Miner Funeral Home on
Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at 11:00 am with Reverend Jim Shanks of the
Eagle Ridge Church of God officiating. The family will receive friends
at the funeral home from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
Interment will follow at Greenwood Township Cemetery in Harrison.

RUTH GENEVA CRYSTAL
Ruth Geneva Crystal, 87, of Harrison,
passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Gratiot Community Hospital, Alma,
Michigan. Ruth was born June 1, 1921 in Royal Oak, Michigan, the
daughter of John and Marion (French) Mohr. Ruth was united in marriage
to Mr. Albert Hartshorn; Mr. Hartshorn preceded Ruth in death in 1982.
Ruth also was united in marriage to Mr. Willard Crystal; Mr. Crystal
preceded her in death in 1993. Mrs. Crystal had resided in Harrison
since 1983, coming from Livonia, Michigan.
Ruth was a member of First Congregational Church, Harrison,
Harrison Lioness and Order of Eastern Star, Chapter #408 of Harrison.
Mrs. Crystal enjoyed pie baking, cooking, gardening, traveling and
spending time with her grandchildren.
Surviving is her loving daughter, Janice Tofuri and husband Charlie
of Seymour, Tennessee, her daughter-in-law, Connie Hartshorn of
Harrison, one brother, John "Bud" Mohr of Florida, one sister, Katherine
Koths and husband Glen of Taylor, Michigan, three grandchildren: Eric
Hartshorn and wife Julie, Kurt Hartshorn and wife Tess and Scott
Hartshorn and wife Joy, five great-grandchildren: Brandi Hartshorn,
Ricky Miller, Dustyn Hartshorn, Sara Hartshorn and Samantha Hartshorn,
one great-great granddaughter, Aubrey Dyke, plus numerous nieces and
nephews. Mrs. Crystal also was preceded in death by her parents, one
son, Douglas Hartshorn, two brothers: Don and Robert Mohr and one
sister, Helen Robinson.
Memorial services for Mrs. Crystal were held Tuesday, March 10,
2009 at 11:00 a.m. from First Congregational Church, Harrison, with
Pastor Gerald Baxter officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of

CUTTING
George E. Cutting, 70, of Harrison, passed away Friday, March 13,
2009 at his home. George was born October 17, 1938 in Detroit, Michigan,
the son of George and Gladys (Mikiten) Cutting. George was united in
marriage to the former DeEtte P. Dompier on June 18, 1971 in Dearborn,
Michigan. Mr. Cutting had resided in Harrison since 1991, coming from
Dearborn Heights, Michigan.
Surviving is his loving wife, DeEtte P. Cutting of Harrison, one
son, David Cutting and wife Laura of Macomb Twp., Michigan, one
daughter, Linda Wilemski and husband Dave of Columbiaville, Michigan,
one sister, Katherine Fields of Michigan, one grandson, Nolan Cutting,
two nieces: Debbie Babcock and Margaret Westerhaus and one nephew, Roger
Hawthorne. Mr. Cutting was preceded in death by his parents.

JULIE ANN CHUTES
Julie Ann Chutes,
age 61, of Riverdale, Michigan and formerly of Harrison, Michigan,
passed away on Friday, March 06, 2009, at the Gratiot Medical Center in
Alma, Michigan. She was born the daughter of Russell R. and Betty J. (Gothrop)
Davis, Sr. on June 29, 1947 in Petoskey, Michigan. On November 21, 1970,
she was united in marriage to Donald H. Chutes in Lennon, Michigan.
Julie was a devoted wife, mother, and friend. Her greatest-passions were
being there for her family, and taking care of their home. She had also
attended the M-46 Tabernacle of Riverdale, Michigan. Julie had lived in
the Harrison area for over thirty-years.
She is survived by her husband, Donald H. Chutes, of Riverdale,
Michigan; a son, Benjamin Chutes also of Riverdale, Michigan; her
mother, Betty J. Davis of Harrison, a brother, Russell R. (Barbara)
Davis, Jr. of Temple, Michigan; her sister, Christine (Thomas)
Armentrout of Clare, Michigan; her step-daughter, Lori Hopkins of
Spring, Texas; two step-grandchildren, Lavender and Marsh Hopkins, along
with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father
and a sister, Carol Richard.
Funeral services took place on Monday, March 09, 2009 at 1:00 p.m.
at the Stocking Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Skirvin officiating. Burial
is in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Harrison. Memorial contributions may be

AILEEN E. MOORE
Aileen E. Moore
(Lodge) - of Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Saginaw - Passed away
Sunday, March 1, 2009, in Arizona. Age 87 years. Aileen E. Lodge was
born January 10, 1922, in Saginaw, the youngest child born to the late
Alfred and Sarah Emma (Robinson) Lodge. She married Charles R. Moore in
1938; he predeceased her December 31, 2007. She and her husband owned
and operated several businesses, including a motel in Grayling, hardware
in Lake City, and a bowling alley in Harrison. She was a very active
woman, and enjoyed bowling, horseback riding, gardening, and playing
cards. She also enjoyed sewing, especially quilts for her grandchildren,
and crocheting. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family and
traveling with her husband. She was a member of the Lutheran faith.
Surviving are four children and their spouses, Charles and Mary
Moore, Mt. Pleasant, MI; Gary and Tina Moore, Harrison, MI; Colleen and
Tom Carpenter, Prescott, AZ; Kathleen Griffith, Mesa, AZ; ten
grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Besides her husband and
parents, she was predeceased by three brothers and two sisters.
The funeral service took place at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2009,
at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Robert
Richards will officiate. Private burial will take place later in
Roselawn Memorial. Family and friends were able to call the chapel from
11:00 Sunday until the time of the funeral service. Those planning an

ALICE L. HARMON
Alice L. Harmon,
age 86, of Harrison, MI, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009 at Covenant
Hospital in Saginaw, MI. She was born January 13, 1923 in Springport
Township to Herbert and Anna (Hiither) Harmon. Alice was a school
teacher at several schools, including Ypsilanti, Vicksburg, Holy
Trinity, Eaton Rapids, with the last 20 years being in Mt. Morris. She
was a member of the Michigan Education Association, Retired Teachers
Association and a former member of St. John Catholic Church. Alice was a
member of St. Athanasius Church in Harrison.
She is survived by: (1) Sister, Eleanor Irons of Springport, (1)
Step Brother, Pen Bidwell of Mt. Home, ID, (1) Niece, Carol Nelson of
Hansen, KY, (2) Nephews, Richard Irons of TX, Gary Irons of Charlotte,
and several Great Nieces and Nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Mary Ellen
Harmon.
Funeral service was held at 3:30 PM Monday, March 9, 2009, at the J.
Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 811 Finley Drive, Albion, with Father Carl
Peitz officiating. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation was
