WILLIAM JAY WALKER
August 28, 1917 ~ May 30, 2009
Jay Walker, age
91, of Farwell, Michigan, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 30,
2009 at Woodland Hospice House in Mt. Pleasant. He was born August 28,
1917 in Pennville, Indiana, the son of Elmer J. and Lella F. Paxson
Walker.
A celebration of Jay's life will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009
at 2:00 P.M. from the Helms Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Mr. Gene
Beavers, of the First Church of Christ, officiating. After the service,
interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery, next to his wife,
Helen. The family will greet friends on Tuesday, June 2, from 2 to 4 pm,
from 6 to 8 pm and on Wednesday from 1:00 pm until the time of services
at the Helms Funeral Home. Memorial contributions are suggested to
Woodland Hospice, The First Church of Christ, or Community Cancer
Services. Envelopes are available at Helms Funeral Home.
In 1929, Jay and his family left Arkansas looking for work and
discovered there was an oil boom in Michigan. He married Helen Prout of
Rosebush on December 1, 1938. They had three sons, William (Bill)
Walker, James (Jim) Walker, and John Jay Walker. Jay worked in the oil
business as a gauger for 44 years, retiring from Total Petroleum in
1980. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing a good game of cards, and
being with his family and grandchildren. He had a good singing voice and
enjoyed singing old hymns. Jay and Helen made their home over the years
in Mt. Pleasant, Barryton, Sears, and Farwell.
Jay is survived by his son, Bill and daughter in law Diane (Sue
Giddings) Walker of Mt. Pleasant; four grandchildren, Darrel and Shelly
(Crowley) Walker of Mt. Pleasant, Karla and Gene Gorczyca of West Olive,
Brenda and Serg Ostesberg of Rockford, and Todd and Jennifer (LeClaire)
Walker of Cedar Springs; nine great grandchildren; and very special
family friend, Janice Maxwell of Paris and Chris Hundey of Farwell. He
was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and a brother; his wife,
Helen in 2004; a son, Jim in 2006; and an infant son, John in 1948.
The family expresses a thank you to Central Michigan Hospital
Emergency Room, The Meijer Heart Hospital in Grand Rapids, and Woodland
Hospice for their kind care.

ELAINE KAY BETOT
Elaine Kay Betot,
age 68, of Harrison, Michigan, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2009 at
the Covenant Health Care-Cooper Campus in Saginaw, Michigan. She was
born the daughter of Percy Ford and Cecilia (March) Jenkins on December
17, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan. On July 25, 1959, she became united in
marriage to Kenneth Roger Betot in Redford Township, Michigan. Mrs.
Betot enjoyed: cross-stitching, cooking, and baking for her family. She
was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 408 and the
Harrison Lionesses. Her ultimate passion was being able to travel in the
south; touring old antebellum homes. Elaine had lived in the Harrison
area since 1998 where she had moved from Brighton, Michigan.
She is survived by her husband, Roger, of Harrison; her son,
Michael (Wendy) Betot of Cary, North Carolina; her daughter, Michelle
(George) Miller of Lennon, Michigan; her brother, Walter Ford (Denise)
Jenkins of Northville, Michigan; her sisters: Nancy (Bill) Meyers of
Marietta, Georgia, Sharon (Bill) Beck of Palm Harbor, Florida, Virginia
Fabian of Detroit, Michigan, Sandra Maison of Ashland City, Tennessee,
and Carol (Gordon) Jacobs of Howell, Michigan; eight grandchildren, her
mother-in-law, Marion Lelling of Alma, Michigan; a sister-in-law, Lois (Rollian)
Sylvester of California, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her parents.
In keeping with Elaine's wishes, cremation has taken place. A
memorial service was held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. from
the Brown Comers United Brethren in Christ Church in Clare, Michigan
with Pastor Chuck Malson officiating. Memorial contributions may be

THAYL ENGHART PILTZ
1915-2009
Thayl Enghart Piltz, 94, of Harrison, passed away Sunday, May 31,
2009 in Clare, Michigan. Mr. Piltz was born March 31, 1915 in Warren,
Ohio, the son of Carl and Luella (Heintzelman) Piltz. Thayl was united
in marriage to Ms. Marguerite Tainsh on October 8, 1937 in Detroit,
Michigan Marguerite preceded Thayl in death in 2000.
Mr. Piltz retired from Union Bag Camp Paper Corporation as accounting
supervisor. He was very active with the Boy Scouts as a troop leader for
many years. Mr. Piltz was instrumental in the re-opening and
continuation of Red Path Presbyterian Church of Cross Village. Thayl
enjoyed trout fishing, camping, building his home on Lake Michigan,
constructing and sailing his sailboats and spending time with his
children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his three loving daughters: Maryann Sullivan and
husband Woody of Harrison, Janie Richter and husband Rick of Lexington,
Virginia and Margaret Kirkby and her special friend, James Clark of
Lexington, Virginia, two brothers: Neil Piltz and wife Barb of Sterling
Heights, Michigan and Gail Piltz and Deb of Indianapolis, Indiana, five
grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and
a special care giver, Tammy Shipman of Harrison. Mr. Piltz also was
preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Eloise Gladfelter and
one brother, Carl Piltz.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 7,
2009 at 3:00 p.m., from Clare United Methodist Church, Clare, with
Pastor Dennis Bromley officiating. Memorial contributions in memory of

SNELLENBERGER
Caroline Snellenberger, age 73, of Temple, Michigan, passed away on
Saturday, June 06, 2009 at her home in Temple. She was born the daughter
of Frank and Anna Dreffs on March 20, 1936 in Saginaw, Michigan. On June
21, 1952, she was united in marriage to Claude W. Snellenberger in
Saginaw. Mrs. Snellenberger's greatest passions were taking care of her
family, friends, and tending to her home. She had lived in the Temple
area since 1959 where she had moved from Saginaw.
She is survived by her husband, Claude, of Temple; her three sons:
Wallace (Linda) Snellenberger of Lake, Michigan, Claude Snellenberger,
Jr. of Newberry, Michigan, Bruce (Judy Alcorn) Snellenberger of Temple;
a daughter, Marsha Balcer of Harrison; her sister, Bernice (Ronald)
Thomas of Saginaw, Michigan; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren,
and several nieces and nephews. Mrs. Snellenberger was the mother of
Donald Snellenberger, who passed away on Sunday, June 07, 2009. She was
preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Dustin Day, two brothers,
Robert and Edward Dreffs, and her two sisters, Lucille Englehart and
Virginia Cook.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 from 11:00 a.m.
to 1:00 p.m. at the Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison. Funeral services
will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev.
William Lowe officiating. Burial will take place in the Fernwood
Cemetery in Temple. Memorial contributions may be considered to the
