MICHAEL A. HAMILTON
(September 24, 1962 - January 31, 2010)

   Michael A. Hamilton, age 47, of Harrison, MI, passed away on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at the Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Clare.
   He was born on September 24, 1962 in Pontiac, MI, the son of James and Dorothy (Watkins) Hamilton. He has lived in the Houghton Lake and Harrison areas since 1976. He loved to fish.
   He was preceded in death by his Father James Doyle Hamilton.
   He is survived by his children, Brian Hamilton of Harrison, MI and Amy (Mitch) Nash of Gladwin, MI. His Mother Dorothy (Max) Kramer of Houghton Lake, MI; Ex-Wife Lora McKimmy of Gladwin, MI; Brothers, David Hamilton of Howell, MI; Rick Hamilton of Harrison, MI and Sam Spencer Jr. of Milford, MI; Sisters, Debbie West of Weidman, MI and Sue Snider of Highland, MI. Soon to be first granddaughter.
   In accordance with Michael’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, February 6, 2010 at 1:00 P.M. At Dorothy’s house located at 6858 W. Emery St., Houghton Lake, MI 48629. Arrangements were entrusted to the Sisson Funeral Home, Gladwin, MI. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in memory of Michael to the family or to the American Diabetes Association.

SHIRLEY J. HOEBEKE

   Shirley J. Hoebeke, age 80, of Harrison, Michigan and formerly of Algonac, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2010, at her home in Harrison. She was born the daughter of Charles and Emma (Montrieul) Martin on February 22, 1929, in Detroit, Michigan. On July 9, 1988, she was united in marriage to Willy T. Hoebeke in Harrison. Mrs. Hoebeke worked in management at Chrysler and retired after 27 years of service. She was also a member of the St. Athanasius Catholic Church of Harrison, Anna J. Guild of St. Athanasius, Harrison Women of the Moose Lodge #2235, and the Fair Haven Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and playing Nintendo D.S. Her greatest passion was being able to spend time with her family and friends. She had lived in the Harrison area since 1999, where she had moved from Algonac, Michigan.
   She is survived by her husband, Willy T. Hoebeke of Harrison; her daughters: Lynn (Michael) Jones of Cadiz, Kentucky, Patricia Heaney of Milford, Michigan, Pamela (Jeff) Shagena of Fort Gratiot, Michigan, and Nancy Frasier of South Lyon, Michigan; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Neil Frasier, and a sister, Arlene Bator.

LAURA LEE KOLANDER

   Laura Lee Kolander, age 80, of Harrison, passed away on Friday, February 19, 2010, at the Mid Michigan Regional Medical Center in Midland, Michigan. She was born the daughter of William and Florence (Burnham) Peck on February 20,1929 in Harrison, Michigan. On July 12, 1947, she was united in marriage to Alvin “Al” T. Kolander in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Mr. Kolander preceded her in death on November 29, 2003. Together, her and family owned and operated the Sportsman’s Bar of Harrison from 1959 until 2007. In her spare time, she enjoyed working with ceramics, participating in water aerobics, and watching the Game Show Network on television. She had lived in the Harrison area since 1959, where she had moved from Dexter, Michigan.
   She is survived by her son, Don (Kelly) Kolander of Harrison, a daughter, Janet Kolander-Campbell of Harrison; her sisters: Evelyn (Weldon) Fuller of Oklahoma and Shirley Gates of Florida; three grandchildren Tim Kolander of Harrison, Jenna Kolander of Merrillville, Indiana, and John Campbell of Harrison; three great-grandchildren: Caleub and Cylie Kolander, and Malia Love; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Al, a son, Tommy Kolander, who passed away in 1955, a brother, William Peck, and four sisters: Anna Maeprice, Mary Ewing, Edith Enkemann, and Lucille Gouchie.
   Funeral services took place on Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. from the Stocking Funeral Home in Harrison with Sister Jean T. Bauman officiating. Visitation took place on Monday, February 22, 2010, from 4:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Stocking Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be considered to the Pardee Cancer Foundation. Burial took place in the St. Athanasius Catholic Cemetery in Harrison. CLARENCE L. BURGESS

   Clarence L. Burgess, age 83, of Harrison, Michigan, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at the Horizon Senior Living Center in St. Helen, Michigan. He was born the son of George and Ruth (Alderson) Burgess on December 15, 1926 in Jamesville, Wisconsin. On February 9, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Flora M. Aleshire in Mason, Michigan. Mr. Burgess was employed at the Cedar Shores Condo Campgrounds for seventeen years as a maintenance person, and he had also farmed. He had lived in the Harrison area since 1983, where he had moved from Mason, Michigan.
   He is survived by his wife, Flora; a son, Michael Burgess of Harrison; a daughter, Nancy (James) Jenks of Harrison; his brother, Dale (Edna) Burgess of Mason, Michigan; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Howard Burgess, and a sister, Charlotte Carl.
   In keeping with Clarence’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial services were held on Thursday, February 4, 2010, at 1:00 P.M. from the Leota Community Church with Pastor Jerry Britton officiating. JOANN “JO” SCHABERG

   JoAnn Schaberg, 77 of Lake Wales, passed away Friday February 12, 2010 at the Lake Wales Medical Center due to respiratory failure.
   She was born February 13, 1932 in Grand Rapids, MI to Wilmot and Helen Benson Pruyne, and came to Lake Wales from Midland, Michigan in 1990. She was a Teacher in the public school system, Volunteer at the Lake Wales Care Center, enjoyed Golfing, was an avid reader, and a member of the Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in Lake Wales.
   JoAnn was preceded in death by her Father, Wilmot Pruyne. Survivors include her Husband, J. Ralph Schaberg of Lake Wales; Daughters, Julia Root and husband Greg of Plainwell, MI; Jennifer Poling and husband Mark of Portland, OR; Sons, Mark Schaberg and wife Julia of Paducah, KY; Chris Schaberg and wife Sally of Belmont, MI; Mother, Helen Pruyne of Midland, MI; Sister, Jean Karpicke of Sanford, MI; Brother, Wilmot Pruyne of Naperville, IL; 10 Grandchildren.
   Memorial service will be held 10:30 AM Friday, February 19, 2010 at the South Shore Resort Clubhouse with Fr. Thomas Seitz, Jr. officiating. Donations may be made to the Lake Wales Care Center. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.marionnelsonfuneralhome.com.

ELWOOD KENNY HOWE
April 23, 1937 - February 11, 2010

   Elwood Kenny Howe, 72 of Harrison, passed away Thursday, February 11, 2010 at his home, with his family at his side. Mr. Howe was born April 23, 1937 in Pontiac, Michigan the son of Cecilia Sheldon and Alta (Kenny) Howe. Mr. Howe served his country in the United States Air Force. Elwood was united in marriage to the former Margaret J. Helms on October 15, 1963 in Pontiac.
   Elwood had resided in Harrison since 2005, coming from Thompson Falls, Montana. Mr. Howe enjoyed fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, gardening, and was an avid mechanic who enjoyed repairing almost anything.
   Surviving is his loving wife of forty-six years, Margaret J. Howe of Harrison, one daughter, Sabrina Catherine Allred and husband Dale of Gladwin, Michigan, two sons: William Sheldon Howe of Leavenworth, Washington and Sheldon William Howe and wife Christy of Kalispell, Montana, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mr. Howe was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Grace Matthews.
