MAX G. HAYWARD

Max G. Hayward,
91, of Harrison, passed away at his home on Thursday, July 31, 2008. Max
was born January 18, 1917 in Gladwin, Michigan, the son of Calvin L. and
Mable B. (Wilson) Hayward. Mr. Hayward served his country in the United
States Army during World War II. Max had resided in Harrison since 1986,
coming from Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Max loved to repair and restore old cars, especially antique
Cadillacs. He also enjoyed restoring homes. Max was very fond of
spending time with his friends at the Harrison McDonalds, especially his
time spent with his close friend, Don Wyzlic. Mr. Hayward was the former
owner of Mickey's Coffee Cup of Harrison.
Surviving are his three sons: Wilbur "Gene" Hayward and wife Hazel
of St. Petersburg, Florida, Robert Hayward and wife Sandy of Harrison
and Gerald Hayward and wife Kathleen of Imlay City, Michigan, six
daughters: Maxine Wallace of Warren, Michigan, Suzanne Cole and husband
Christopher of Shelby Twp., Michigan, Cynthia DiNicola of Texas, Kim
Sharon of Shelby Twp., Catherine Ancona and husband Ben of Imlay City
and Patty Olekski and Tom of Shelby Twp., one step-son, Timothy Grencz
and wife Cheryl of Harrison, twenty-two grandchildren and many
great-grandchildren. Mr. Hayward was preceded in death by his parents,
his wife, Erna Hayward, his companion, Juanita and twelve brothers and
sisters.
Graveside memorial services will be held Saturday, August 16, 2008
at 11:00 a.m. from Pleasant Plains Cemetery, Harrison, with Chaplain
Nancy Casey-Folton officiating. Military honors will be conducted under
the auspices of the Harrison V.F.W. Post 1075. Memorial contributions in

VIRGINIA J. VANBUSKIRK
Virginia J. VanBuskirk,
age 78, of Gladwin, Michigan and formerly of Temple, Michigan, passed
away on Monday, August 04, 2008 in Mecosta County, Michigan. She was
born the daughter of Fred and Theo (McIntyre) Pruden on June 14, 1930 in
Temple, Michigan. On June 29, 1968, she was united in marriage to
Clarence Leroy VanBuskirk in Harrison, Michigan. He preceded her in
death on April 23, 2004. Mrs. VanBuskirk enjoyed working around her
home, gardening, fishing, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and
playing slots and Bingo at the casino. Virginia had lived in the Temple
and Gladwin areas her entire life.
She is survived by her eleven children and five step-children; two
brothers, Clyde Pruden of Lake Station, Michigan and Mike Pruden of
Clare, Michigan; her two sisters, Donna (Sam) Hilden of Marion, Michigan
and Shirley Snyder of Lake, Michigan; numerous grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in
death by her parents, her husband, a son, Leonard Earl, a daughter,
Ellen VanBuskirk, six brothers: Arnold, Gene, Joe, Moe, Ferris, and
Duane; four sisters: Alberta, Leona, Nellie, and June; two
grandchildren, Ronald J. Curtis and Ronald Pruden and her
great-granddaughter, Kimberly Miller.
In keeping with Virginia's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Memorial services took place on Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at 11:00 a.m.
at the Stocking Funeral Home with Elder Dale Beavers officiating. Burial
is in the Fernwood Township Cemetery in Temple, Michigan. Memorial
contributions may be considered to Easter Seals. Arrangements were

MELVIN J. DAVIS
Melvin J. Davis, age 73, formerly of
Harrison, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 in Grand Rapids. He was
born on October 17, 1934 in Harrison, the son of Archie and Mildred
(Christie) Davis. He and his late wife, Billie were married February 11,
1956 in Harrison.
Melvin and Billie lived for many years and raised their family in
Marquette, Michigan. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, having
served in the U.S. Navy.
His beloved wife, Billie, passed away on March 16, 2008. Also
preceded in death by son, Archie and brothers, Buck and Bill Davis.
Surviving is one son, Russell J. (Candy) Davis of Grand Rapids, one
daughter, Jody Davis-Belmore and husband Daniel Belmore of Marquette; 5
sisters, Irene Smith of Harrison, Mabel (Glenn) Bucholz of Harrison,
Juanita (Bill) Johnson of Marion, Dolly (Wes) Gross of Coleman, and
Leila (Rex) Thompson of Harrison; 6 grandchildren, Marie (Josh) Wright,
Tim Davis, Nicole (Mike) Latta, Joe Davis, Ashley Franks and Shayla
Franks; one great granddaughter, Logan Latta.
In keeping with Melvin's wishes, cremation has taken place.
Memorial services in celebration of Melvin's life will be held on
Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. from Stocking Funeral Home,
Harrison, with Elder Dale Beavers officiating. There will be a gathering
of family and friends one hour prior to the service time. Memorial

KENNETH JAY WOLFE
Kenneth Jay Wolfe, age 56, of
Harrison, passed away on Saturday, August 02, 2008 at the Gladwin Pines
- MidMichigan in Gladwin, Michigan. He was born the son of Joseph and
Doris May (Martin) Wolfe on November 04, 1951 in Ferndale, Michigan. On
August 27, 1976, he was united in marriage to the former Sharon Marie
Havash in Lincoln Park, Michigan. Mr. Wolfe worked as an electronic
technician for Ameritech, which is now owned and operated by AT&T. He
retired from this position in 2002. He had lived in the Harrison area
for the last six years where he had moved from Westland, Michigan.
He is survived by his wife Sharon, whom he shared thirty-two years
of marriage with; his son, Garreth Wolfe of Wixom, Michigan; a daughter,
Andrea (Chuck) Custer of Lake City, Michigan; and his granddaughter,
Natalie Custer, along with her future brother or sister, whom is on the
way. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 06, 2008 at
6:00 p.m. from the Stocking Funeral Home with Chaplain William Schaard
officiating. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. until the time of
service. Military honors will take place under the Auspices of the
American Legion Post 404 of Harrison. Memorial contributions may be
